ARTmail Project Offered To ACE Participants

The Center for Creative Aging-NC provided a wonderful opportunity for the participants of ACE to take part in a program called ARTmail. The canvas for this art was the inside of a cardboard box. Participants at ACE at Bardolph, ACE at River Landing, ACE at Caldwell House and ACE at Muirs Chapel worked on the art and then it was mailed to one of the partnering sites. The artwork was mailed back and forth between 2 participants who exchanged the canvas for 10 weeks. There was much excitement and anticipation as the participants received the canvas. They couldn’t wait to see what their partner had added. During this process, one would build on the work of another.  Many participants communicated they “enjoyed it very much”.

  

When the project was complete, the participants were honored with a reception for their participation at the Greensboro Public Library.  The day included food, singing and viewing the artwork the participants created together.  One of the ACE at Bardolph artists, Amy, discovered that her co-artist at ACE at River Landing was a long time friend whom she had not seen in quite sometime.  They had exchanged artwork for all those weeks without knowing about their connection. To the delight and surprise of everyone in attendance they made this discovery at the reception, it was heartwarming reunion.

Another participant, John T., who is non-verbal, lit up when he saw his art work by the front door, and was pointing it out to everybody who attended.  This project was a wonderful opportunity for the participants to engage in self-expression and connect with others who have similarities and differences.  The artwork that was created was displayed for a month and ACE was proud of the participants who took part.  Great job everyone!
